DTE expects 95 percent of customers power to be restored by Monday
(FOX 2) - Wind gusts of up to 60 mph have been rocketing across southeast Michigan this weekend, knocking out power in its path.
“Our entire coverage area has been feeling these wind gusts,” Ryan Stowe said, DTE Energy Executive Director Distribution Operations.
A thousand DTE Energy employees in the field were restoring power to about half as of Sunday night - but the winds aren't letting up just yet. At the height of the outages, we're told about 152,000 DTE customers were without power. As of Monday morning only about 48,000 customers were still without power.
“We are still getting about 5,000 new outages an hour and we are trying to respond as fast as we can,” Stowe said Sunday. They're working around the clock to have 95 percent of customers back up hopefully by Monday night.
The wind gusts made opening a car door a chore and speaking of cars, check out this surveillance video.
Details on restoration estimates will be available once winds die down and crews can assess the damage.
Customers have three convenient ways to contact DTE when they lose power or see a downed power line: call (800) 477-4747, visit DTE’s website at dteenergy.com or by accessing the DTE Energy Mobile App from your smartphone or tablet. The app is available free of charge from the Apple Store or Google Play. Additional information is available through the online Power Outage Map at www.dteenergy.com/outage.
