Man sentenced for raping flight attendant at Romulus hotel

(WJBK) - A man convicted of sexually assaulting a flight attendant at a Romulus hotel was sentenced Thursday to at least 55 years in prison.

Dwuan Parkman, 44, was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, third-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree home invasion.

The judge sentenced him to 35 years for criminal sexual conduct and 20-30 years for home invasion.

According to reports, the victim attendant was dropped off in a taxi at a Days Inn hotel located at 9501 Middle Belt with co-workers early in the morning on June 20, 2016. Parkman arrived at approximately the same time in a separate vehicle. Video shows him loitering in and around the hotel, and then disappearing from view. Shortly after disappearing, the victim reported she was assaulted. Weapons were not seen in the video and police are unsure how the suspect was able to enter the victim’s room.

Before the sentencing, the victim had an opportunity to speak.

"I think I express the sentiments of the entire community in apologizing for the horribile things that happened to you," the judge said. "Certainly we are going
to do everything we can to make sure justice is done in this case."

She then gave her heart wrenching statement.

"He made a conscious decision to follow me and find an opportunity to rape me," she said.

She described how he watched her at a local restaurant and decided she was a "suitable target." She says that's when he got in his car, followed her back to her hotel, and spent hours trying to find a way to get to her - stealing keys and information from the front desk.

"The determination on his part, when you think of it, is overwhelming," she said.
