Massage parlor armed robbery suspect arrested after going to business for 2nd time
FRASER, Mich. (FOX 2) - A man armed with a knife walked into a Fraser massage spa earlier this month for a robbery - and allegedly came back for seconds recently.
The first incident at Five Lake Massage Spa happened on Dec. 6 and luckily, no one was hurt but the suspect made off with $600.
FOX 2: "How are you guys doing?"
"I’m scared," said the owner. "(He came in and said) 'Give me money, give me money.' (I said) 'Okay, I give you money.'"
The suspect is 34-year-old Brandon Woods who allegedly targeted the massage business located on 14 Mile - literally across the street from the police department.
"Anybody in this area knows that this is a public safety building - police and fire," said Fraser Police Det. Sgt. Ben Hoppe. "I’m not sure if he’s just brazen or didn’t care, or thought he would get away with it,"
And then on December 17th, the same suspect allegedly came back again.
FOX 2: "So Tuesday this week he came back?"
"Yeah same guy," said the spa owner.
After the robbery on Dec. 6th, the massage spa added a security lock on the door.
And when Woods alleged returned — and an employee confronted him with a suspect photo that police had released.
Woods: "What’s that?"
Spa worker: "You."
Woods: "Me? I’ve never been here before."
He walked away and at that very moment, police were in the area.
"One of our officers was pulling out of the station here and observed that male from the photos walking down behind the business here," Hoppe said.
"The massage employees actually called 911 at that point and reported that male was there on the sixth had returned," said Det. Tyler Churches, Fraser Police Department.
Police caught up with Woods and arrested him in a neighborhood nearby. Officers also recovered a knife — believed to be his.
Police video:
Woods: "Am I being arrested?"
Police officer: "You’re being detained right now."
Woods: "Can you tell me why?"
Police officer: "Just a second and we’ll tell it to you, okay."
On Thursday Woods, a Southfield husband and father of three with another child on the way, was formally charged.
Woods has a lengthy criminal history — the judge set his bond at $500 thousand — cash surety, no 10 percent.
"I would just love to be with my family and I plan to fight this case to the very fullest," Woods said. "Because I do believe I am innocent."
