MSP seek info on man who drowned in Lake Michigan

Authorities up north are asking for help identifying a man who drowned in Lake Michigan over the 4th of July.

Michigan State Police shared a recreation photo of what the victim is believed to have looked like. He's a white man somewhere between the ages of 50-75 years old.

It's not known where the man is from, so he may have been visiting from the metro area.

Police also shared a photo of a small watercraft that was found 8.3 miles southwest of where authorities recovered the man's body. The body was found northwest of Leland harbor, and the dinghy was found closer to North Manitou Island.

The dinghy was originally a medium grey color with a black floor, but had been repainted olive drab which is now well worn.

Police aren't certain the dinghy is related to the man's drowning.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office at 256-8800.
