Murderer Jonathan Schmitz in Jenny Jones TV case released on parole

The convicted murderer at the center of one of Metro Detroit's most infamous murder cases has been released from prison.

Jonathan Schmitz was convicted of second-degree murder and served 22 years behind bars for the murder of Scott Amedure. He was released from a prison in Jackson earlier this morning.

The murder took place days after Amedure admitted to having a crush on Schmitz during a 1995 taping of the Jenny Jones show.

Amedure surprised Schmitz during a taping of the show and three days later, Schmitz shot Amedure at his mobile home in Lake Orion. Schmitz blamed alcoholism, mental illness and said his humiliation from Amedure's announcement on the show led to the shooting.

FOX 2 spoke with Amedure's brother, who said he still has many questions for Schmitz and still blames the Jenny Jones show for the shooting.

Schmitz was granted parole in March.
