Off-duty officer, SMART bus involved in accident at 7 Mile and Woodward

Detroit police are investigating a serious accident Monday morning that involved an off duty officer and a SMART bus.

Detroit police say an off-duty female officer in a red Dodge Charger attempted to make a left turn from Seven Mile onto Woodward. The driver of a white Dodge Durango hit the Charger, sending the Charger spinning into a SMART bus that was parked nearby.

Three teens were in the Durango and were all transported to the hospital. Police say the 14-year-old male, 15-year-old female and 16-year-old female are all in stable condition with minor injuries. Police say the off-duty officer is in temporary serious condition with minor injuries.

Passengers were getting off the bus when it was hit by the Charger. Police say none of the bus passengers were injured.

Witnesses of the accident told FOX 2 the driver of the Charger was turning where it is illegal to turn left, and that she also ran a red light.

"Our lights are green; she's supposed to stop. When our light turned green that's when I heard the [screeching of the brakes]," one witness told us.

"That police in that car ran that red light, for real. And they took all day just to get here," another witness said.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 2 for updates.
