READ: Inspection records from Detroit schools released

DETROIT (WJBK) - The City of Detroit has released inspection reports and requirements to get the buildings into compliance.

The inspections were ordered after multiple sick-outs held by teachers in the Detroit school district. Teachers and students said that the schools had been falling into disrepair.

The inspections were all held during the second week of January. A.L. Holmes Elementary-Middle School, Benjamin Carson High School for Science and Medicine, Blackwell Institute, Cody schools, Detroit International Academy, Dossin Elementary-Middle School, Greenfield Union Elementary-Middle School, J.E. Clark Preparatory Academy, Osborn schools, Ronald Brown Academy, and Spain Elementary-Middle School were all listed on the inspections.

Some of the citations include replacing a heating ventilator, repairing water-damaged ceilings, removing broken glass, and pest control.

Cody schools had the most violations of all of the schools inspected with 30. The recommendations are to rid the premise of insect/rodent and make necessary repairs to the floors in 11 rooms and a hallway on the third floor.

Dossin Elementary needs to restore hot water to portable classrooms while Osborne High School is being told to fix the roof over several classrooms, the locker rooms, and an exit on the first floor.

The schools have until mid-February to fix the violations.
