Romeo man dies in motorcycle crash on Big Beaver
TROY, Mich. (WJBK) - A horrific motorcycle accident at a major intersection in Troy.
A motorcyclist weaves through traffic with two other bikers, loses control and crashes. He died at the scene.
The family of a 25-year-old man from Romeo is now grieving his life lost in a motorcycle crash just before 10:30 Thursday night in Troy.
Dispatcher: "911, what's the address of the emergency?"
Caller: "There was a motorcycle accident on 16 mile, and huh, after Rochester somewhere. We need help. Send an ambulance right away."
Dispatcher: "We're on the way there right now."
Police say witnesses saw the victim on a 2001 Yamaha and two other bikers riding erratically in and out of traffic going eastbound on Big Beaver Road when the 25-year-old lost control and was ejected.
"The motorcyclist we believe hit a curb, struck a sign and traveled significant distance after he was ejected from the motorcycle," said Sgt. Meghan Lehman, Troy police. "We closed down eastbound Big Beaver from Rochester to conduct a thorough investigation. It was closed for about four hours."
"I knew something had happened, some kind of accident," said Jacob Maryonwski. "I popped my head out the window. I couldn't tell what it was, but they shut down the roadway and didn't let anyone come through."
Motorcycle debris remains scattered at the scene, police say now that the weather is warming up more people will be riding motorcycles, and they have to be more careful.
"With the summer months, we know people like to be out on their motorcycles and it can be tempting to exceed the speed limit," Lehman said. "But you have to be extra cautious."
Troy police are still looking to speak with more witnesses as they continue their investigation and at this time the victim's name has not been released.
