Sanders warns of impending Bumpy Cake shortage
DETROIT (FOX 2) - Bumpy Cake fans, get your fix now because a shortage of the beloved dessert is expected.
Sanders warned that estimates show the cake will be out of stock by the end of the year.
This comes after Awrey Bakery in Livonia, which produced Bumpy Cakes, closed.
"When we received this unexpected news, we began an exhaustive search for a new bakery partner to take over making Sanders Bumpy Cakes," said Vic Mehren, the CEO of Sanders' parent company, Second Nature Brands. "After conversations with more than a dozen bakeries, we have not yet found a new partner who can maintain the high quality and classic taste that our consumers expect and deserve."
While Sanders continues to search for a new bakery partner, the cakes could be unavailable for some time.
"We know Bumpy Cakes hold a special place in your lives and celebrations and in the culture of Michigan. This is why recent events are so disappointing and also why we are committed to being able to make Bumpy Cakes again with a new partner in the future," Mehren said.
The cakes are still currently available online and in Michigan stores that carry them.
