Southgate police find woman lied about kidnapping

SOUTHGATE, Mich. (WJBK) - Southgate police say a young woman who claimed she was kidnapped, made it up.

Public Safety Director Jeff Smith said that 19-year-old Deanaija Foy was found to have lied about being held for ransom. Foy "reunited" with her family late Wednesday night at Fountain Park in Southgate after relatives had said she was missing for 24 hours.

Foy's family said she was abducted while walking Tuesday night and that she had been allowed to keep her phone with her, with her captor demanding $25,000.

Southgate police said during the investigation her story was found to be false. Smith said that the case remains open and that charges for filing a false police report will up to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
