Two brothers charged with both opening fire at Southfield night club

Two men accused of opening fire at a Southfield night club face a judge Friday.

The brothers, who according to their attorney have never been in trouble with the law, now face eight felonies stemming from a shooting at Bar 7 back in November.

At first police thought there was one shooting victim but when they got to the hospital two others drove themselves to the hospital.  Those three victims are expected to recover, but the judge says this could have played out much differently.

"I'm highly concerned that someone is taking shots at individuals," said Judge Robin Dillard-Russaw. "I don't know the facts, but I'm concerned about the public safety."

Pictures were shown to detail how crowded the bar was the night of the shooting.

Police say it started as fist fight between one of the two Carlos Beckham and a shooting victim.

Beckham started shooting and the two victims took off running. His brother, Alonzo Beckham according to investigators started shooting as well, hitting a third person who was just sitting at the bar minding his business.

Their attorney says the two brothers are actually the victims defending themselves from a would-be robber.

"Mr. Beckham had an expensive watch on and individuals attempted to rob him," said defense attorney Randall Upshaw.

The attorney adds they were both CPL holders, with full time jobs and not so much as a traffic ticket.

"Regardless if you are a CPL holder or not shouldn't take shots at people in a crowded restaurant," said Russaw.

The judge says because of that the Beckham brothers from Detroit are being held on $500,000 cash surety bonds.
