Watch: Second Congressional hearing on Flint water crisis
(WJBK) - A second congressional hearing on the Flint water crisis is slated to begin at 2 p.m. in Washington, D.C. FOX 2 will livestream the hearing which you can watch here. A replay of FOX 2 News Mornings will play until the hearing begins.
Officials will be testifying before the U.S. House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. The hearing is entitlted "The Flint Water Crisis: Lessons for Protecting America's Children."
Expected to testify are Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, Flint School District Superintendent Bilal Tawwab and Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, the pediatrician who discovered the elevated levels of lead in Flint children.
Gov. Snyder declined to testify and instead delivered in Lansing his 2017 budget proposal, which includes a suggested $195 million in state appropriations to Flint. About $25 million of the allocation would be used to replace old lead and copper pipes. If lawmakers approve the govenor's recommendation, state spending on Flint's water crisis will exceed $232 million.
A separate congressional hearing was held on February 3 by the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Flint emergency manager Darnell Earley refused a subpoena to testify.
"We are calling on the US Marshalls to hunt (Darnell Earley) down and give him that subpoena," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). "We're calling on the U.S. Marshals to hunt him down and give him that subpoena."
Gov. Snyder was not asked to attend the first congressional hearing.
