Romanian gymnast gets Olympic bronze medal first awarded to Jordan Chiles

Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu received her Olympic bronze medal during a ceremony on Friday.
The gymnast received the medal that ended drama at the Paris Olympics when U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles initially received the medal in a decision that was later rescinded over a scoring controversy during a floor exercise final.

Barbosu received the medal after the Court of Arbitration for Sport recently voided an appeal by Team USA coach Cecile Landi during the Aug. 5 competition, which elevated Chiles into third place and moved Barbosu down to fourth, the Associated Press noted.
With Barbosu receiving the medal, it marks Romania’s first women’s Olympic medal in gymnastics since the 2012 Olympic Games. She told the AP that the medal controversy was "saddening."
USA Gymnastics tells the AP it will continue its push to allow Chiles to keep her medal.

The medal controversy has resulted in some instances of online abuse towards the gymnasts, with the AP reporting that Chiles has received some racially charged remarks on social media that she called "wrong and extremely hurtful."
Chiles spoke out about being stripped of the Olympic medal on Thursday in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter, writing in part that the decision feels "unjust and a significant blow" to not only her but to everyone who "championed my journey."
