(FOX 2) - Snow, subzero wind chills, and gale warnings in the nearby Great Lakes are what Southeast Michigan is up against today and tomorrow as winter weather returns to the forecast.
While the bulk of the winter advisories are on the west side of the state where lake effect snow is arriving today, there is only light moisture in the air to start Wednesday morning.
That will change over the course of the day with the first flakes falling around early afternoon. By then, metro Detroit temperatures will top out around 35 degrees before tumbling to freezing conditions.
At its heaviest, areas around Detroit could see up to an inch of snow accumulation on the sidewalks. Snow squalls will be at their most likely Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Both Ann Arbor and Detroit will see between 1-2 inches of snow by Wednesday night while Pontiac and Howell could see upwards of 4 inches.
The National Weather Service is anticipating arctic air to move in later tonight. The wind chill will make things feel below zero degrees in most of the region, including as far north as Lapeer and Flint, as well as out west in Washtenaw County.
Detroit will feel like 4 degrees.
There will also be wind gusts later Wednesday afternoon.
The next weather system is expected to arrive this weekend.
