Oh the weather outside's not frightful, this December's been kinda delightful, and since we've no place to go, look back at the 1950s where it snowed, it snowed, it snowed.
Campus Martius has been evolved drastically in the past 50 years. Today, it's a popular entertainment area but 60 years ago, it was the center of Detroit.
Need proof? In the 1950s City Hall and Campus Martius were bustling in Downtown Detroit. We know this because of the photographic evidence provided by the Detroit Historical Society.
The sepia-toned photographic print was taken in the 1950s but the exact years is unknown.
A wreath is hung above the entrance to City Hall, and a large Christmas tree and nativity scene decorate its lawn. Snow clings to the ground, buildings, and the Michigan Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument. The Hammond Building, the Penobscot Building, the Dime Building, the Lafayette Building, and the Majestic Building are all visible as well. Cars, trucks, pedestrians, and streetcars traverse the streets.
