Body discovered in burning, vacant home on Detroit's west side
DETROIT (WJBK) - Authorities are investigating after a body was found in a burning, vacant house on Detroit's west side.
Firefighters were called to the home aroun d 7:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 19 thousand one hundred block of Archdale Street, which is near Seven Mile and Southfield roads. While putting out the flames, they discovered the body.
Authorities weren't immediately able to determine the sex or the age of the person. Police have not confirmed this, but sources tell FOX 2 the person had been shot. Authorities are awaiting the medical examiner's report.
A neighbor, Alvin Ray, called 911 as soon as he saw the fire. He says the only person he was around the home was owner, although the owner did not live there.
"He comes by every few weeks to check on it; he was always welcome into the block. We always talked to him, things like that," says Ray. "That was my main concern with calling 911, because I didn't know if he was in trouble or now."
