Canines and Couture raises money for Detroit Dog Rescue
(WJBK) - The Detroit Dog Rescue hit the runway with a spring fashion show like no other this weekend.
FOX 2's Amy Lange served as emcee at the Canines and Couture event. Erika Erickson, Camille Amiri and Roop Raj were also among the many stars strutting their stuff with their canine companions.
The sold-out event at the Townsend Hotel featured silent and live auction items that raised thousands of dollars for DDR.
But of course, the highlight of the day is the doggie fashion show.
"What better way to raise money for DDR than to have us all act like goofballs and to have fun with our dogs!" says Erika.
"It was fun. What a great way to raise money for Detroit Dog Rescue," adds Camille.
"There are so many dogs in Detroit right now that need help and if we can just raise awareness by these cute faces than maybe we can ask people to say, 'I'm going to look up the DDR website and do something to help today,'" says Roop.
"I don't think anybody realizes how much it costs to have a dog heartworm tested, or spayed or neutered. The expense is outrageous," says Detroit Fire Sgt. Jim Nadolski.
"Just a little clean up and a few vaccines and these dogs are given life," says Dustin Banooni from DDR.
"We can't thank everybody enough for the support. The outpouring support for DDR and our mission and what it stands for, it just feels so good," says Kristina Rinaldi, Executive Director of DDR. "And what feels even better is we're going to be able to rescue so many more dogs tomorrow."
