WEB UPDATE (4:05 p.m.): Detroit police have released photos of a silver sedan and person running who may be connected to the shooting incident.

No officers were injured on Wednesday when police say at least one suspect started shooting at a Detroit Police car.

Police were called to the area of Remington and Charleston Wednesday morning when someone started shooting at them with what is believed to be an AR-15 rifle. Police are searching for three people they said were involved in the shooting.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said on Wednesday that an officer was shot at near 8 Mile and John R around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Around noon, police said two people were arrested for a separate shooting incident that they said involved a drug war.

Craig said the two suspects were shooting at each in the vicinity of the original crime. Craig said the officer said he felt targeted and that it was "believed to be an ambush on police".

FOX 2 was told earlier in the day by Detroit Police Director of Communications Michael Woody that he officers were unaware they were being shot at and no Detroit police officers were injured by the gunshots.

Woody also said witnesses spotted the gun being leveled at a Detroit Police car and then the shooting started. Woody continued and said the officers were unaware they were being shot at.

Craig later said that the shooting was definitively an ambush attack on officers.

"Frankly, we got a number of reports that were a little cloudy," Craig said. "I don't know what else we'd call it."

Eight to ten rounds were fired with one of them hitting the officer's vehicle. No Detroit police officers injured in the shooting.

Police are trying to track down the shooter and are using K9 officers to search. Police said three people, all dressed in black, were involved but only one person pulled the trigger.

Detroit Police did not offer any further information regarding the incident and are setting up a command post in the area. More details are expected throughout the day.

Police said there were two suspects arrested during an unrelated shooting that Craig said involved a drug war. He said that shooting happened in the vicinity of the original crime. Those two suspects are currently in police custody.
