Man killed in crossfire during argument outside parents' home

DETROIT (WJBK) - In May of 2017, 26-year-old Melvin Jennings arrived at his parents' home in the 5800 block of Woodhall between Linville and Chandler Park Drive. His family tells us Jennings noticed some friends parked in front of the house arguing, so he tried to step in and calm things down. But then shots were fired - and Jennings was hit and killed. 

More than a year later, police are still trying to figure out what happened. 

"Get them boys off the streets. Come and do some bold stuff like that. He knew them, he grew up with them, right off Camden," says his father, Melvin Jennings. 

Those close to him describe Jennings as a family man with a focus on fatherhood. The tragedy left five children without their dad.

"It's not fair that my kids have to grow up without a father, and they're still out here on the streets, probably still doing the same thing," said Adrienne Jackson, Jennings' girlfriend. 

At Finney High School, Jennings played basketball and also made the honor roll. He also attended Wayne County Community College and worked for Chrysler.

Again, there were plenty of witnesses during the time of that shooting on Detroit's east side. But now, more than a year later, none of them have come forward.
