Missed jury duty phone scam claims to be from judge's office
A new missed jury duty phone scam is making the round.
The scam artist will call and advise the resident that jury duty was missed and a fine has to be paid or else they will be subject to an arrest or arrest warrant, according to a release by the Wayne County Circuit Court.
Most recently the caller claims to be from the office of Judge Robert J. Colombo Jr.'s office. Wayne County Circuit Court released a warning that the call is not from Colombo's office and is not affiliated with the court.
The court advises residents to get as much information as you can about the caller and report it to your local police department.
"If you missed jury duty in the Third Judicial Circuit Court, you will not receive a phone call requesting money and threatening arrest," the release said.
If you do miss reporting for jury duty, you should contact the court. If you were to serve at the Coleman A. Young Center, please call (313) 224-5650. If you were to serve at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, call (313) 224-2507.
If you do not call, you may receive a Show Cause Order requiring you in court on a specific date to explain why you missed court.
If you have been the target of a phone scam like this one, call the FOX 2 news desk at (248) 552-5103.
