Sink hole forming in Fraser, 15 Mile closed between Hayes and Utica
FRASER, Mich. (WJBK) - Macomb County Road Commission crews have closed 15 Mile Road closed between Hayes Road and Utica Road for an investigation of a sink hole in the area.
According to Consumers Energy Public Information Director Debra Dodd, Consumers crews responded to a 911 call Saturday morning regarding a home that was believed to be sinking.
Crews identified a home on Eberlein Drive, just south of 15 Mile Road where the issue was found. Crews promptly removed the gas meter from the sinking home as a precaution.
Consumers crews remain on scene with the Fraser Public Safety Department, while the investigation continues.
The residents of the home in question have been evacuated.
In 2004, a massive sink hole formed in a nearby area of Sterling Heights, just across the intersection of 15 Mile Road and Hayes Road. The home in danger of sinking currently is believed to be connected to the same sewer line that collapsed over a decade ago.
Consumers says the area is safe and they remain on the scene only as a precaution, in case more gas-related work needs to be done as the situation progresses.
It is unknown when the road will reopen. Drivers are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
