Staffer investigated for sexual conduct at Dearborn Heights Annapolis High School
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - A staff member at a Dearborn Heights high school is the center of a criminal sexual conduct investigation.
The allegations involve female students at Annapolis High School.
Parents and students at Annapolis are just learning of a possible criminal sexual conduct by one of the staff members toward some of the female students.
"I'm very surprised at someone harassing the children at school because this is a pretty good school," said Kisha Williams, a parent of an Annapolis student.
Superintendent of Dearborn Heights District 7 John Fazer says the tip came in sometime last week.
"We received an anonymous email and after reading that email, we processed it internally," said Fazer. "And there was a complaint about a staff member potentially having inappropriate actions with a student."
Fazer says the man is not a teacher at the school, but does work inside the building, having regular contact with students. Sources say he was caught sending sexually explicit photos and text messages to underage female students.
"There's no threat," Fazer said. "The staff member is put on administrative leave immediately, so the person of question is not on the premise."
The investigation has been turned over to Dearborn Heights police who confirm they are looking into the matter, but are not releasing any further information at this time.
"We're a safe school, very conscientious about our students, and that's our first concern," Fazer said. "And I want to assure everybody that we are working through this system and we'll move forward."
Students we spoke with hope that, if the allegations are true, the person in question, never returns.
"You wouldn't want that type of person around a whole bunch of kids because then more stuff could happen," said Paige Thomas, a freshman.
The superintendent is also in the process of sending a message out to parents, assuring them that although this investigation is just in the early stages, this is being handled.
