Young mother among victims shot execution style in car on Detroit's east side
DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police are looking for the person responsible for two execution-style murders inside a car on Detroit's east side this weekend.
Police initially got a call about a possible car accident Saturday around 6 a.m. in the 5100 block of Holcomb Avenue, which is near McClellan and Warren avenues. When police arrived on scene, they saw two people in the front seats of the car.
Police say a man aws in the driver's seat and a woman was in the passenger seat. Both had gunshot wounds to the back of their heads. Medics arrived on scene and confirmed the same.
The victims were inside a dark blue 2010 Chevy Malibu. Police say their car also hit several fences in the area.
Family tells us Jalisa Baxter, 23, was the woman found shot to death in the front seat. Her family wants everyone to know what was done to the person they love, and, most importantly, what was done to Jalisa's 7-year-old son, Demauri.
"She had one son who she adored. She lived for him. This is not right; this is not right. We're family oriented. We didn't expect this coming. She was innocent," says Jalisa's older sister Jasmine Lakey.
"I want to get these people that did this to my daughter because I can't sleep until these people, until justice is served. I have no sleep. I can't eat," says Jalisa's mother, LaShawn Lakey.
The family tells us they want everyone to know these things because they know someone out there knows something.
"I want ya'll to look at her son, and, I gotta tell her only child that his momma is no longer with us. He does not know to this day that his momma is gone beacuse it's hard as hell right now. So, I need ya'll help. I need the world's help. I need everybody to help me tell him what happened to his momma," LaShawn says.
