Flat Rock restaurant owner who helped needy, now needs help

For 38 years, Steve and Susan Stylianou have given to people in need in their community. Health issues forced the family to close their family business but they're hoping the people they helped are willing to give back.

"We raised a family and bought a house and tried to maintain it and then all of sudden, this thing happened to us," Steve said. "I opened my restaurant and invite all the homeless and needy familiess to come in and eat free of charge."

Steve's passion turned one restaurant into five downriver. And he was always willing to give back when he could.

"When you give back, God blesses you so that is what we did," Susan said.

But a recent string of bad health forced them to get out of the business. First, Susan had a brain tumor, then cancer took their oldest son, and in June, their roof was damage which lead to mold and, eventually, more health problems.

"He's had eight ultrasounds, eight CT scans, an MRI, the endoscopy, a colonoscopy," Susan said.

He's lost 50 pounds and is very weak. Then had a long fight with insurance, which did little to relieve his suffering.

"We lost our business we've been sick and (we're left with) $1,400 dollars - you can't even buy insulation," Steve said.

Enter a loyal customer from the past. Tittle Brothers Construction is willing to pay it forward by offering to do $15,000 worth of work for free to help get the family back on their feet.

"They came in and redid the whole bathroom," Steve said.
