Former neighbor of DeAngelo Davis not surprised he is innocent in WSU officer's death

In a shocking new development sources say that murder charges will be dropped against the man accused of shooting and killing Wayne State Police Officer Collin Rose.

This comes exactly two weeks after the officer was shot and DeAngelo Davis was taken into custody. Now we learn that the charges will be dropped due to a lack of evidence. Davis, the man thought to have been the prime suspect, is no longer.

FOX 2 spoke with Davis' former neighbor who said this new development comes as no surprise to him.

"Everyone has been saying they thought he was innocent because he is a pretty cool guy," said the friend. "He is usually bumming for change or something like that. I was talking to a guy at the store the other day and he said 'I don't believe he did it,' and I said I don't believe it either, man. He's a pretty good guy."

Davis is still locked up in the Wayne County Jail but will be released when the charges are dropped. Police arrested Davis hours after the Wayne State police officer Collin Rose was gunned down.

Investigators never found the murder weapon or a witness seen in a surveillance video that showed someone near the scene of the shooting.

Another new development is that sources say that Rose's killer fled the scene on foot, something that would have been extremely difficult for Davis to do, because he has a form of debilitating leg injury.

"I know he (didn't have any) gun or anything," said his former neighbor. "I didn't know they would drop charges on him. I don't think he did it for real."

Sources tell FOX 2 that investigators are aware of a few people that may be able to provide some information about Rose's killer.
